Hi,

I am planning to buy Amaze Petrol version. But the review of ground clearances of some other cars including Honda city discourages me to book the car. Can you advise if 165mm ground clearance is good enough to go for? Is it a major factor in selecting the car model considering its most use in metro cities?

Appreciate your prompt response.

Hello,

Well, you will be surprised that the previous version of Honda cars till 2009 were even having lower i.e 160 mm ground clearance, which they have increased to 165mm basis several customer reviews and complaints of under body chassis hitting on speed breakers, potholes - leading to damage to suspension too

165 mm to 170 mm is a standard ground clearance in cars sold in India - which is made for India - basis the roads conditions and driving and is considered descent enough where the drive is mostly in cities or average roads, you may not feel any kind of discomfort,

However - where the speed breakers are slight higher which are most likely on upcountry roads or on bad patch roads with deep potholes the car under-body may touch - depending on speed of the car

Just - fyi - Other cars in Sedan Segment - Verna - 165 mm, Sunny - 165 mm have similar ground clearance, Vento yes has slight more at 168 mm

Is it a major factor in selecting the car model considering its most use in metro cities?

Answer is No - if the drive is mostly restricted to Metro. You may think of ground clearance as a factor if the car has lesser than 160 mm GC or if you go for upcountry roads on regular basis.

Hello,

In Maruti Suzuki range - Swift and Dzire series are rather the benchmark in (Hatch & Sedan) terms of ground clearance as on wheelbase of 2425 - ground clearance is 170mm.

Celerio in itself is good - would be good enough for most of city roads and drive
If you seek Ground clearance as important consideration - Suggest to refer on Cars with Best Ground Clearance

Hope should help !!

@ Yash Patel,

Which year make is your Verna ?

It depends on 4 things when a car under-body scrapes on the speed breaker
> Ground Clearance
> Suspension
> Car speed while crossing speed breaker

There been some who even reported Renault Kwid 180 mm or Ford Figo 174 mm under body hitting in due to softer suspension and speed
Refer on - Cars with Best Ground Clearance

Having said same - All new Honda City suspension is well optimized for Indian roads and safely cross in most of urban and semi urban speed breaker and roads at ease. But yes its not the car for unconventional raised speed breakers as seen in some villages, bad potholes

Hope should help !!
