Hi Guys

I have an i10 Era 1.1 which is 1 year old and has done 9000 kms. I want to convert it to CNG. Can anybody please advise the best CNG kit compatible to i10. My concerns are

1. Sequential kits are lil out of my budget but i still want to go for it as i heard its better than the other types.

2. Should i got it installed from hyundai or from the market? what is the difference with regard to price and the quality of service?

2. In case i cant manage to go for Sequential Kit due to budget contraints then:
- Which is the best closed loop kit to go for ( pls suggest any particular brand ) and how much this will cost?
- is i10 1.1 compatible with conventional CNG kit ( i.e closed loop)
- as compare to sequential kits is the power loss significant in conventional kit?
- How to ensure that the dealer has installed the genuine kit and we are getting what we are paying for? ( as we r non technical ppl and he may charge 30,000 for the kit worth Rs 21000 and we will not be able to differentiate.)
- what is lehmda and advancer ? should we go for these ?

early response will be highly appreciated.
-Amit

Hello Amit,

Before answering... let me take the discussion the other way... with 9000 kms in a year ie 750 kms drive in a month i.e 25 kms a day - do you feel the need for CNG ??

Trust - you are aware that there CNG kit do lead to loss of some power. You already on 1.1 irde engine with 68 PS power, by installing cng - can surely expect loss of power to take away the charm of driving at high speed or pick up..

In terms of fuel savings - yes you may save 80,000 - 85,000 in fuel in CNG
But - outflow in CNG will be - Maintenance for 5 yrs - around Rs. 20,000 or even may be higher (frequent servicing and annual checkup and maintenance), Higher Insurance Premium for 5 yrs - Rs. 8,000 approx , CNG Kit Fitment and RTO - Rs. 35,000 atleast

The eventual saving would be Rs. 15,000 - 20,000 in 5 yrs i.e Rs. 3000 - 4,000 in a year and the discomfort of lower power and pickup and frequent servicing against Petrol model. Also, as its a year old car, your manufacturer warranty will also be void. May be not a wise choice to switch to alternate fuel for drive less than 1000 kms a month, may give a second thought to it

In response to your queries,

1. Sequential kits are lil out of my budget but i still want to go for it as i heard its better than the other types.
2. Should i got it installed from hyundai or from the market? what is the difference with regard to price and the quality of service?

Yes, sequential kits are definitely better . If you are keen in terms of safety and performance and especially in a year old car - its wise to go in with Sequential kit , under open loop or closed loop not only maintenance will be higher but it also puts more pressure on engine

- Which is the best closed loop kit to go for ( pls suggest any particular brand ) and how much this will cost?
- is i10 1.1 compatible with conventional CNG kit ( i.e closed loop)
- as compare to sequential kits is the power loss significant in conventional kit?

Yes, I10 is compatible and is much sold in CNG version, rest already answered above

- How to ensure that the dealer has installed the genuine kit and we are getting what we are paying for? ( as we r non technical ppl and he may charge 30,000 for the kit worth Rs 21000 and we will not be able to differentiate.)

There are proper invoice, warranty cards if you get it installed from a government approved CNG Installation Center
If from Delhi, You may click here where we have put in a list of Government approved CNG Centre in Delhi

- what is lehmda and advancer ? should we go for these ?

Its Lambda and Advancer. Well, these are small units which uses sensors to mix air and fuel to help in optimizing the output performance of closed loop cng kits. So they are like performance boosters. Can cost in range of Rs. 2500 - 4000

Hello,

Why you considering CNG, Not recommended for such a low running !!
In terms of :-
- saving calculation on alternate fuel
- Maintenance including life of cng
- Other Annualized Recurring expenses
- Power Loss

Its advisable to not to switch over !!

I have got a second hand Santro Xing 2004 model.
The engine conditions are excellent although it has run 1lakh + kms.
I am planning to install a new CNG kit from Delhi. I have read many posts some of them saying conventional is cheaper and cost effective and others praising sequential kits.
My query is that with me having Santro Xing 2004 model, which kit should I go for and how much would it approximately cost and please suggest me some reputed dealer in delhi.

Hello Rajeev,

For a 2004 model - its going to be conventional kit. You can choose closed loop cng kit with some booster like lambda or timing advancer
Sequential kit may not be compatible with a 10 yr old technology car

Dear Admin,

I have a similar question in my mind, I have Jan 2012 registered (manufactured Nov-11) Hyundai I-10 Era. It has covered 22000 Kms. Initially the use of less, but now I am expecting running of close to 13000 to 16000 kms per year.

I am thinking of CNG kit as one of the alternative, but need to have following information.

1. Cost difference between sequential and closed loop CNG kits.
2. Compatibility of I-10 Era with sequential CNG kits
3. Known brands for both Sequential / Closed loop CNG kits
4. Any suggestions for CNG kit dealers in Vadodara (Gujarat)

Pls find answers

1. Cost difference between sequential and closed loop CNG kits.
Price depends on brand
For brands like Tomasetto, Lovato Sequential Kit - it will cost approx Rs. 50,000 - including CNG Kit, Fitment and RC Endorsement
& a similar Lovato Conventional Closed Loop Kit - will cost in range of Rs. 30,000 - 32,000 - - including CNG Kit, Fitment and RC Endorsement

Note:- Above prices are - if purchased from an Authorized Govenrment approved CNG Store. If you buy it from your new car dealer - cost may increase by 8000 - 10,000

2. Compatibility of I-10 Era with sequential CNG kits
Hyundai i10 Era is very much compatible with Sequential CNG Kit - Its what is recommend by HMIL - wherein dealers fit CNG Kits - and warranty remains intact too. Infact - you will feel marginal pickup difference too. Know Difference between Conventional Vs Sequential Kit

3. Known brands for both Sequential / Closed loop CNG kits
Heard of these :- Lovato & Tomasetto are known to be more popular. Other good brands are :- BRC, Longas and Landi Renzo

4. Any suggestions for CNG kit dealers in Vadodara (Gujarat)
Sorry - no info on it.
