Resolved Procedure to retain the registration of my old vehicle

I will be selling my old car in scrap in a couple of days. I would like to know if I can retain the number of that car and use it on a new car that I may purchase in future. So the situation is I am not buying a new car currently but would like to retain/keep this old car number and transfer it to the new car which I'll buy in future. I am from Delhi.
