Car Companies Sales, Market Share Report for December 2019

December 2019 was a month where

  • Manufacturers tend soft towards Dispatches due to BS4 Cars as April 2020 Deadline coming close along with fact of Year End Change to Impact Sales in 2020 of Leftover Stock which may needs Discounts to clear up Inventory.
  • Toyota reported in 45% Drop in sales numbers in December 2019 with its lowest ever sales of last few years recorded in Indian Market

Below are Sales numbers of Car Companies for December 2019

Maruti Suzuki - Maruti Suzuki started introducing in BS6 Compliant Cars right from May 2019 and by closure of December 2019 has 8 Models (Alto, Wagon R, S Presso, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Ertiga, XL6) on sale. From end January 2020 expect entire Portfolio of Maruti Suzuki Cars to be available in BS6 Compliant Engines

This has helped Maruti Suzuki to post a gain in sales to 1.24 Lakh Cars in December 2019 as against 1.21 Lakh Cars sold a year back. Kudos to Maruti Suzuki for been a leader in adopting BS6 Compliant Norms in regular phase in its car range

Hyundai - Hyundai India introduced 2 Cars with BS6 Compliant Petrol Engine - namely Grand i10 Nios Petrol and Elantra Petrol. This has led Hyundai to go slight slow on Wholesale and offered high discounts in December 2019 to let dealerships liquidate stock

Hyundai reported in 9.8% degrowth in December 2019 by selling 37953 Cars in December 2019 as against 42093 Cars sold a year back

Mahindra & Mahindra: Mahindra, despite of Diesel Vehicle as Pre-dominant category turned the table by reporting 4% Growth by selling in in 15691 Cars in December 2019 as wholesale Dispatches as against 15091 Cars sold a year back

From Retail Sales - It was a Bumper High Discount Month where M&M offered high discounts to tune of Rs 4 Lakh on Alturas G4, Rs 2 Lakh+ on Marazzo M8, Rs 1.5 Lakh on XUV500 and close to Rs 75000 on KUV100 and XUV300 to pickup sales.

Toyota: December was the lowest Sales month of Toyota reported in last few years, where Manufacturer intentionally limited offtakes due to changing Calendar Year and restricting dispatches as still they manufacturing BS4 Cars. Toyota reported in 45% Drop in Sales in December 2019 by selling just 6544 Cars - lowest in recent years

Honda Cars: Honda Cars India reported 36% Drop in Sales in December 2019 by dispatching 8412 Cars in December 2019.  To be noted that Honda City is introduced with BS6 Compliant Engine in November 2019 and from January 2020 only Cars with BS6 Compliant Engines to be dispatched.

Tata Motors: Tata Motors focused so as to help Dealerships in liquidating left over stock in December 2019 by offering Retail Benefits to extent of Rs 1.5 Lakh plus on Hexa and over Rs 1 Lakh on Harrier. In an attempt for Year End Stock Clearance even high discounts were also offered in Nexon and Tigor

For Wholesale Sales - Tata Motors sold 12785 Cars in December 2019 with a 10% degrowth over Year on Year Sales Basis

Kia Motor: Kia Motors Shut Down Plant for Maintenance for more than a week in December 2019. The Sales Numbers stood at just 4645 Units giving buffer to Dealer to clear stock in December 2019. To be noteworthy that Kia Seltos Prices to be increased from January 2020 along with Kia Carnival to be showcased in Auto Expo

MG Motor: MG Motor India retailed 3021 units of Hector in December 2019. The numbers are in line with expectations and MG Motor India continues to be strong with Hector with over 20,000 Bookings done of Hector in Pipleine.  Next SUV would be MG EZs as Electric Vehicle which can possibly be the new benchmark in Electric Car Segment

Renault: Renault Triber continues to be Mainstream Car and doing wonders in reviving sales for Renault India. Official Numbers however awaited as of now, but expected to be close similar to sales as was in November 2019.

Ford: Ford India Increased prices of its product range with Freestyle, Aspire, Ecosport by Rs 10,000 and Endeavour by Rs 1 Lakh in December 2019. Official Numbers Awaited as of now

  

Nissan: Nissan India as Manufacturer sold in 12958 Units in December 2019 but its 80%+ sales came from highest ever Exports of 10791 Cars. For Domestic Market, Nissan sold 2169 Cars which is what around 50% growth on Year on Year Sales Basis.
