With Altroz is what Tata Motors making an entry in Premium Hatchback Segment and will compete against Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite I20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo

Important: Turbo charged Petrol Engine will be introduced at a later time

If you choose in Naturally Aspirated 1.2 Litre Petrol Engine then this is the same engine as what seen in Tiago, Tigor line up but in improved BS6 Compliant state and as what seen in performance with Engine NVH Levels – is not a match to Baleno, Elite I20 or Honda Jazz line up.

However, for Diesel Car Loves - Altroz to come equipped with Powerful 1.5 Litre Engine (as what seen in Nexon in slight detuned state) with 90 PS Power and 200 NM Torque making it reasonable competitive in Performance. Also would the Diesel Engine be also available in Multi Drive Mode – Eco, City and Sport Mode for those who love adjusting power and fuel efficiency basis drive conditions

The reason for detune performance is to aid in better mileage and reduce in turbo lag. Infact Altroz Diesel gets peak torque from as low as 1250 RPM onwards with a range of 1250 rpm - 3000 rpm. This can make the car an excellent contender for day to day drive conditions.

But, the biggest let down is in Transmission – where Automatic Cars is gaining numbers and Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and Elite I20 available in CVT Automatic and Polo in DSG – Tata Altroz wont be available in DSG or CVT or Torque Converter Automatic Gear Box. 

 

Tata Altroz Space:

 

A Well Proportioned Car which is to be introduced with a Package of Width (rather a better way is segment best shoulder room), Legroom, Boot Space to offer a Value Proposition to Buyers. Been the Wheelbase slight short against Elite I20, Baleno and Jazz and as what the car been unveiled in Geneva Motor Show – the rear seat legroom may not be to the best, but certainly added width for better shoulder room and spacious boot space would be what the key highlights of Tata Altroz

Design Language: What a beauty as seen in styling. Tata Impact 2.0 Design Philosophy with Sweep Back Headlights is what catching.

Boomerang Side Window design with Sloping Element is interesting. However, down side of that design is that rear side window glass area turns smaller and may not be well like by Senior Members of family sitting on rear seat as this may turn to be slight claustrophobic.

The rear design can look impressive with Blackout Tail Lights. Yes – Rear Window Glass area again is on slight limited side as what seen in Nexon too

 

Interior Aesthetics. Plastics: Well – Hyundai still remains the benchmark, followed closely by Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. Not to say much except when the car is introduced to make an observation.

 

 

Safety: Tata already proved its mettle by showing 5 star Safety Rating in Nexon in Global NCAP and Altroz is been designed on all new ALFA Platform. This is the same platform also to be used in Nexon in coming months. With ABS, EBD and Dual Airbags to be standard across all Model Variants – upcoming Tata Altroz would be second to none.

 

 

Reliability, After Sales: Well Maruti Suzuki remains the benchmark and is also the most fuel efficient one. Hyundai too has high Reliability Factor. Honda is too known for Bullet Proof Reliability too. Tata Motors still need to catch up in Reliability Part

 

 

Should you buy Tata Altorz over Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite I20

Tata Altroz is Futuristic in design language, comes with BS6 Compliant Engine, has Torquey turbo Petrol and Diesel Engines, Class leading Build Quality

But, Feel effect on rear seat due to Sloping rear Window lines, Interior Aesthetics, Plastic Quality in Interiors, Naturally aspirated 1.2 Litre Petrol Engine and yes Lack of Automatic Transmission are what the weak Points of the Car.

Rest – drive and Handling part especially the fact that Diesel Engine comes with peak torque of 200 NM from as low as 1250 rpm can make Altroz Diesel a well to do car

But yes Pricing is the key, and discount schemes are what pouring in Competition cars of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite I20 and Honda Jazz and Tata Motors need to really price Altroz sensibly to make it a success for Indian Market
