Maruti Suzuki S Presso is what the new wave in Sub 5 Lakh Price Segment for touching aspiration of Indian consumers looking for a car

  • SUV Kind of Feel, Looks and Raised Ground Clearance
  • Have Touchscreen Music System with Android Auto, Apple Car Play
  • Have Space, Reliability, Mileage, Low After Sales Service Cost
  • Comes with ABS, Airbag, Parking Sensor as Basic Safety despite of Entry Segment

Engine 1 Litre BS6 1 Litre BS4
Power 67 BHP * 90 NM  67 BHP * 91 NM
Length 3665 mm 3731 mm
Width 1520 mm 1579 mm
Height 1564 mm 1490 mm
Boot Space 240 Lit 300 Lit
Ground Clearance (Unladen) 180 mm 184 mm
Wheels 13 Inch, 14 Inch 14 Inch

Yet, all this at a package of affordable price bracket and S Presso possibly meets all these criteria with a tick

Yes - looks can be subjective. Although Maruti Suzuki calls it a Micro SUV, and dealerships too call a SUV - but whether you call it a crossover, raised hatchback or SUV - there is no denying of fact that S Presso

  • Suspension dynamics and Steering Feedback feels like a hatchback
  • 13 Inch and 14 Inch Wheels are too puny to call it a SUV League
  • Car Looks from Side without any wheel arch cladding, without Side Body Cladding, rear looks do not give a feel of SUV

But yes although the ride, handling and looks may not put it in SUV Class but there are many attributes in S Presso which can make it a success

Maruti S Presso Positives

Engine Performance and Reliability: 1 Litre K Series Engine is tried and tested engine and thanks to light weight S Presso do not feel under-powered at any moment. It just pulls up instantly and thanks to good fuel efficiency, high reliability and the fact is BS6 Compliant ticks all the boxes for an entry segment car.

Although Engine NVH Levels feels superior when compared to its direct rival Renault Kwid but downside is relative higher engine noise when driven to slight extreme but thats not the way this car to be driven. Its a good Engine and if to be used for practical reasons for day to day drive in city and mix highway there wont be any issue as such

Aspiration: SUV is what the craze among Indian consumers and giving a car with 180 mm (unladen ground clearance), SUV like front grille (however recommended to add chrome as accessory), Tall Car in Design can make happy the masses

Space Management: Despite been a small car with length under 3.6 Meter, kudos to Maruti Suzuki Engineers to deliver it class leading space. The space feels better against S Presso sibling Alto K10, Celerio and direct rivals Renault kwid and Datsun Redi Go. Have a 6 feet person in front and rear still has legroom space for another 6 feet on

Boot Space is good at 240 Litres, Ingress and Egress is easier for member as door open wide 90 degree angle and can simply walk in to cabin and come out of it. Add on is window glass area is good and good headroom makes the car feel airy and spacious

Downside however is that width is narrow and car is at best for 4 adults. Also no 60:40 split rear seat. Rear Headrest are too small for a taller passenger

Chassis Platform, Safety:Maruti Suzuki using its all new Heartect chassis platform as used in Ertiga, XL6, Baleno, Swift, Dzire in entry Segment car S Presso

S Presso comes with ABS, EBD, Driver Side AIrbag, Reverse Parking Sensor as standard in all model variant and also has high speed alert system. Even co-passenger airbag is optional and top end Vxi Plus comes with Co-Passenger airbag as standard safety too.

Automatic, Manual: Available in both AMT Auto Gear Shift and 5 Speed Manual. Somehow S Presso response in AMT seems even better against its sibling car and fewer jerks felt while gear shift changes by the actuators.

Manual is fun with even better control.

Expect fuel efficiency at around 14 to 15 Kmpl in City drive condition and can go upto 18 to 19 Kmpl on highway condition making a good fuel efficienct car

Some Other Pointers

> Unmatched Reliability of Maruti Suzuki comes in Play

> You can well see the bonnet from the driver even if your height is short.

driver seating position awesome. Driving Position is impressive

> 4.5 meter Low Turning radius, peppy performance (yes steering feedback is not gr8)

> AC Performance good too and impressive

> Touchscreen Music system with Android Auto, Segment first steering mounted controls

Maruti S Presso Negatives

Looks : Not a beauty queen, to some may even feel eye sore the design language. Check out Gap in between Wheel. Side Profile looks bland

However, suggest to opt for Chrome front Grille, Wheel Arch cladding and Side Body Cladding. It all cost just Rs 5000 or so and highly recommend to opt for 3 accessories If you choose basic Lxi Model - do opt for Wheel Cover

Body Roll: Flip side is body roll which would be higher due to tall design. If you care to drive a car enthusiastically especially on corner and feel to go for a SUV and happy with S Presso might be slight mistaken

Some Lacking Features: Although the car equipped with Touchscreen but No rear Power Windows, No Tachometer, No fog light, No camera, No electric orvm. infact internal adjustable orvm only in top end model. Also, the DRL as you see in media reviews are part of accessory which cost Rs 10,000. Somehow the Front Power Window switches at the center console are not the best way by ergonomic standard

No SUV Like Handling: Brakes although comes with ABS, EBD but may not be inspiring on high speed. Steering feels light and no SUV like Handling. Suspension is same as in other maruti hatchback

Small compact car - length is small, width is narrow, if you feel to get a premium car feel then it does not look attractive

Recommendation on Maruti S Presso

Whatever negatives it has - bottomline remains that S Presso is a Spacious car in cabin with good legroom space, peppy engine performance, SUV Kind ground clearance, Touchscreen Music System, Fuel Efficiency, Reliability, Low Ownership Cost and can be a good package for first time car buyer provided looks are not considered as a scoring point,
