Maruti XL6 Review. Positives and Negatives of Maruti XL6

Should you consider buying Maruti XL6. Here are detailed Positives and Negatives Explained of Maruti XL6 Car in 6 to 7 Seater Car Choice Segment

Maruti XL6 2021 Review : Positives and Negatives Explained

First come First - the very obvious question, whats different in Ertiga and XL6

Maruti XL6 gets key updates over Regular Ertiga

  • 2nd Row with Captain Seats having Independent armrest makes it lot more comfy.
  • Also is XL6 slight longer (40 mm) and wider (50 mm) and taller (10 mm) in dimensions against Regular Ertiga
  • Cosmetic Changes with all new Grille Design, LED DRL, New Bonnet and Bumper Design, Skid Plates in Front and Rear, Side Moulding with Wheel Arch Cladding, Black Treatment on Alloy Wheels along with Light Design Changes
  • Interiors too gets an update with Stone Black theme Dash, Black Treatment on Dash and Seats, Cruise Control on Top End Model

Rest the Heart that is K15 BS6 Compliant Petrol Engine as same as what seen in Ertiga in 5 Speed Manual and 4 Speed Automatic. Claimed Mileage is 19.01 Kmpl (Manual), 17.99 Kmpl (MT)

The suspension Dynamics, Steering Feedback, Tyre Profile are exact same as in regular Ertiga - hence the overall handling behavior of car is going to be more or less as seen in Ertiga.

Positives of Maruti Ertiga XL6

  • The Car Definite looks a Premium Version of Ertiga in Crossover with Wheel Arch Cladding, Skid Plates, New Flat Bottom Bonnet Design, Quad Chamber LED Headlights with LED DRL along with Sweeping Cross Bar Chrome Garnish. The Looks certainly makes XL6 more a Crossover as against MPV.
  • Lot Spacious in Cabin. With introduction of Captain Seats with Independent Armrest, Flexibility of Slide and Recline on 2nd Row along with Recline Option on 3rd Row Seat. All Seats comes with adjustable Head Restraints. 3rd Row comes with Bottle Holder, Glass Area on 3rd Row is Bigger. The Ingress and Egress to 3rd Row is good. For any one considering a Family Car with very good Seating Comfort for 2 Senior Members on 2nd Row, Kids to Teenagers on 3rd Row with Couple on Front will appreciate space. Boot Space is 209 Litre which can be extended a lot by Part Splitting 3rd Row to complete Fold 3rd Row

  • Petrol Engine is Refined with Superior Engine NVH Levels, and if having an expectation of Sedate, Comfortable ride will like XL6 Petrol. Tuned for Buyers who love relaxed drive, comfort drive, linear pick up. Very Important to have expectation Correct - Remember its a People carrier car and been in Petrol, Not Torquey as what seen in Diesel. 4 Speed Automatic is best for relaxed drive. No Quick Throttle response pls as else wont enjoy drive.
  • Good Visibility all across, Steering is Light and Flat Bottom Steering is good to hold, Braking is well Effective too on the lines as what seen in Eriga
  • Comes with Mild Hybrid to improve Mileage by turning off Car Engine on Red Light. Maruti Suzuki Proven Reliability is definite a plus Point along with Option of 5 Year Warranty
  • Features List with Comprehensive Features in Zeta and Alpha Trim with prices starting at Rs 9.84 Lakh (Zeta Manual), Rs 10.41 Lakh for Top End Alpha Manual. While Automatic Trim starts at Rs 11.04 Lakh for Zeta Automatic and Alpha Automatic Trim at Rs  11.61 Lakh.

Negatives of Maruti XL6

  • Very Black in Cabin. Despite of Wide Window lines. Feels like claustrophobic been Headrest on Driver and Co-Passenger Side are rather on taller side and obstruct view of someone of average height like 5'5" or below seating in 2nd row and with all black theme is not to everyone liking. Anyone seeking a Family Car may just be disappointed with so much of Black Cabin.

  • The 15 Inch Wheels looks a tad smaller, there was definite an opportunity lost of even Bigger 16 Inch Wheels with Wider Tyres which could have enhanced the looks, stance and ride of car on Highway
  • Not a Car for Enthusiastic Performance. Its a car for those who love Sedate Ride with light foot on accelerator. No Explosive Pickup, No Peppy Mid range and 4 Speed Automatic can turn vocal if push throttle response to high. Mid range is Flat
  • Suspension Feels to be on slight Firm Side. Not Cushiony or Comfort Oriented Ride

New Cars

Check Prices with Complete Features

  • Advanced Safety Features is definite a miss. No Side Airbags, No Curtain Airbags. No Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. No ESP. Had Maruti Suzuki incorporated these Safety Features it could have enhanced the Value appeal of this Car a lot. However, no complaints on Braking despite of Rear Brake Drum, the Braking of Ertiga and XL6 remains a benchmark for Maruti Suzuki range, very close to levels of S Cross (which comes with all 4 Disc Brake)
  • Been Wheelbase is similar as in Ertiga Regular Edition, if have well stocked Adults on this MPV in 3rd Row then they may not be much comfortable as limited Headroom and Legroom. Innova Crysta yet remains a benchmark and followed next in Marazzo

Should you Buy Maruti XL6

See Problem with Maruti XL6 is that

  • Neither the Ride is Plush
  • Such Dark Cabin (to our view) is not to everyone taste
  • Such Large Headrest on Driver and Co-Passenger Seat obstruct view of 2nd Row Passenger especially if there height is 5'5" or below
  • No Advanced Safety

Consider XL6 only if seek an upgrade over Ertiga and recommended when planned to have test drive to have your family members be with you to seek there opinion on how they feeling on 2nd Row, 3rd Row - does such black cabin and large headrest causing a problem to them ? If not then consider XL6 over Ertiga.

Hey Gagan,

Can you please add thoughts on the crumple zone of the car. Is it safe on rear seats?
