Car Insurance from Dealer Showroom or Online. Myth on Claim Settlement Issue Busted

Car Insurance from Dealer Showroom or Online. Myth on Claim Settlement Issue Busted

Are you also been told that at time of Buying New Car, if you do not buy Car Insurance from Showroom then you will face problem in claim settlement. Myth Busted from Real Owner Experience

Buy Car Insurance from Showroom else Face Issue in Claim : Myth

Owner Experience (Sibashish Saha): While purchasing my car I had bought insurance online (though I was warned by few that I would have problems during claim) from bajaj allianz as not only the price was much cheaper than what the showroom was offering but as also I was getting an OBD device. Even, during my first renewal I had renewed online directly from Bajaj Allianz website.

Few days back I had met an accident. The accident though minor but caused ugly scratches and dents. That's why instead of overlooking I decided to get it repaired. I registered my claim online through bajaj allianz app and after 2 days as per my convenience I took the car along with documents to ford workshop.

I had doubts whether I would be denied cashless claim as I had purchased online but to my relief the whole process was smooth and I had no issue with claim or cashless settlement.

I had to pay only Rs 1000 as filling charge or something they say i out of the total Rs 27,000 bill.

Experience Shared by Owner:

  • Always compare dealer rates with online while buying insurance not only for renewals but also during purchase of new car.
  • Not only the rates but you should also check the IDV (Insured Declared Value) of car and add-ons like zerp depreciation, engine protect etc which they are offering. At times, online offers from policybazaar look lucrative but then the rates are with substantially lower IDV and without addons.
  • If you are purchasing online then purchase only from those companies which have tie up with ford/dealer so that you can avail cashless claim. You can avail the list of insurance companies by asking the dealer or you may even look online.
  • It is better to policy directly from company's website than from broker site like Policybazaar or Coverfox (I find coverfox better of the two though) as sometimes you may get additional discount. Follow this process

a) Ask dealer for insurance company with which they have tie up. (Suppose you get 4 names)

b) Then look online in coverfox or PB and select which among the 4 is giving a better deal in terms of price and company's brand value

c) Compare rate of online policy with that of dealership

d) Then buy the policy directly by visiting that company's site if you find the policy is cheaper online.
