Ford Figo 2019 Official Review: Positives, Negatives of Ford Figo

Ford Figo Petrol, Diesel Official Review. Review Engine Performance, Mileage, Suspension, Prices, Safety Specs along with Brief Comparison of Ford Figo and Freestyle

Ford Figo Review

Ford India finally launched Iconic Figo with all new Dragon Series Petrol Engine with 95 BHP Power and 120 NM Torque.

Also is introduced in bigger 1.5 Litre Engine with 122 BHP Power and 150 NM Torque in 6 Speed Automatic Transmission, while the Diesel Engine is similar as 1.5 Litre TDCI with 100 PS Power and 205 NM Torque.

All New Front Fascia, Touchscreen Infotainment System along with wider R15 195/55 Wheels in Titanium Blu are the key highlights. Here is what can expect from all new Ford Figo

Engine Performance, Drive, Handling: Although on papers this 1.2 Litre Engine with 95 BHP and 120 NM Torque is the most powerful among lot, but in real world scenario this 3 cylinder engine rather feels and tuned towards linear pickup. There is no surged feel and acceleration response post speed of 60 feels very linear wherein you have to throttle the car to maximum to get the grunt out of it.

The Steering response feels accurate and gear shifts are sleek. Clutch seems reasonable okay (not the butter light clutch as seen in Maruti or Hyundai Cars). Braking is awesome and the car feels well planted on road in city condition.

Now been a 3 cylinder engine, there is mild vibration which can be felt on steering only if one wishes to hold and feel the vibration (remember Figo does not come with Balancer Shaft as otherwise is in Ecosport), but thats not a concern in any way. Engine Noise levels are well controlled and cabin seems well insulated too. Suspension Dynamics seems well suited for city condition. On higher speed - no nervousness from the car

Overall the Petrol Engine is for those who love point to point distance travel in light relaxed way. In terms of Mileage - anything around 12 Kmpl to 13 Kmpl in City conditions should be a reasonable expectation from Ford Figo Petrol

But care for even better feel - check out Ford Figo Diesel or Automatic Petrol - you can instantly feel the Surged Power delivery. Care for best response from Engine in both Automatic Transmission (when compared against Baleno CVT, Jazz CVT, Swift AMT, I20 CVT - Figo Petrol Automatic seems the most responsive one and to our view enters as second best driver car for fun and feel in Automatic Transmission in Petrol - just after Polo GT TSI in sub 10 Lakh Price

Care for Fun to drive Performance in Manual Transmission - Figo Diesel is a true enthusiast delight - you can instantly feel the power delivery, performance pickup without any lag and just goes on to bring a smile on your face. In terms of Mileage - anything around 16 Kmpl in City conditions in Diesel, should be a reasonable expectation from Ford Figo Diesel, while Ford Figo Automatic delivers fuel efficiency of 10 Kmpl

Undoubtedly, the overall performance output in Figo Automatic and Figo Diesel are the best of standards, while the Figo Petrol is for those who want relaxed drive.

Safety: Safety is in DNA of Ford India and is the only Manufacturer in India offering Safety of 6 Airbags as feature in its entire range (top end model variant) - Figo, Aspire, Ecosport, Endeavour all have it.

ABS, EBD and Dual Airbag are standard. Build feels seems good as checked through Door Panels. Braking is effective. Figo Automatic also gets ESP, Hill Launch Assist. Adjustable Head Restraints are on both Front and Rear for preventing whiplash injury.

The only grouch is when Ford Figo Sibling - Freestyle Manual Transmission has advanced safety of ESP, Active Roll Over Protection, Hill Launch, Traction Control - if not Traction control and Hill Launch then ESP and Active roll over protection could have definite made a difference

Features: Although there is Flyaudio touchscreen, Rear View Camera, Standard Safety, Convenience, Styling with Piano Black Finish but New Figo lacks in Ford Signature Sync3 Touchscreen with  Fluid response also there is no ESP, Active Roll over Protection in Manual Transmission, no dynamic steering adaptive grid lines in Read View Camera.

The Navigation is inbuilt thus no live traffic updates, no Android Auto and no Apple Car Play,

Looks, Interiors: All New Ford Figo looks sporty in Blu Edition with 15 Inch Black Alloys, Contrast Roof Wrap. Especially in White Color with Contrast Roof, Premium Black Finish on ORVM and Premium Black Finish on Front Grille makes new Figo Sporty

While the Lower End Titanium gets Chrome Treatment in Front with Body Colored ORVM and Body Colored Door Handle. Interior comes in all black theme with Push Button Ignition with Flyaudio Touchscreen.

It looks okay, nothing extra-ordinary in looks. Instrument cluster feels very basic. No soft touch plastic, no armrest on Front and Rear, no door pockets on rear doors.

Overall

Although Ford Figo is a good buy, but point is when a better product Freestyle is available having advanced safety of ESP, Traction Control, ARP along with better Sync3 Touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play with Raised Ground Clearance, even better suspension along with wider R15 185 Tyres as against Figo Ambiente and Titanium available in R14 175 Tyres - it makes all sense to go with Ford Freestyle

The Price difference is just Rs 40,000 to 50,000 and one can get good scheme on Freestyle to bridge the price gap in between Freestyle and Figo

Be patriotic and trust your instinct. The Tata Tiago has the highest spec for safety, is a proven reliable car and IMHO one of the best looking due to its unique Impact Design (as Pratap Bose calls it).

I am looking to buy a hatchback car with budget of under 7-8 lakhs. But confused between Hyundai i 20, Ford freestyle and Tata Tiago.
Which one should I select?
