Ford India has launched all new Aspire 2018 in Indian Market with New Features, New Petrol Engines, Styling Element changes and yet retaining Ford DNA of Handling

Below are Key Specs of all new Aspire 2018

Petrol Engine: The 1.2 Liter Dragon Series Petrol Engine with 95 BHP Power and 120 NM Torque ln 5 Speed Manual and 1.5 Litre Engine in 6 Speed Automatic with 121 BHP Power and 150 NM Torque although on papers looks most Powerful Compact Sedan in Segment,

But, in real world conditions - the 1.2 Liter Engine 3 Cylinder Engine lacks the feel and feedback of fun to drive factor which otherwise is there in Dzire and Amaze. The Engine Performance is more on linear side, and if you try to get the best of throttle response - the car does not  bring any smile on face. It feels rather a bit average when compared against Dzire and Amaze in pickup.

A bit of downer is also the Clutch which although is okay on standalone, but when put in competition feels a bit heavier on the Petrol Engine when compared against other Compact Sedan Cars.

Claimed Mileage is 20.4 Kmpl on Ambiente, Trend and Trend Plus with 14 Inch Wheels, while cars having 15 Inch Wheels in Titanium and Titanium Plus with wider R195 Tyres will get 19.4 Kmpl

 

Diesel Engine: Yes - thats a key highlight and 1.5 Litre, 4 Cylinder Diesel Engine has in all to bring in excitement and it feels a breeze of power packed performance with lot superior pickup, excitement and fun factor. The Engine NVH Levels in Diesel are well controlled, and clutch despite of Diesel Engine has only marginal more hardness - but much in line with segment best benchmark.

You need Pickup, you need acceleration, you need fun factor - the 1.5 Liter Diesel Engine is what should be on consideration. The 1.2 Liter Dragon Series Petrol Engine, does feel very average as against Dzire and Amaze.

 

Steering: Steering is reasonably light, and is a straight fit to as what seen in Freestyle. It gains weight on speed, and is good enough. Although the turning radius felt slight on higher side as against Dzire and Amaze

 

Brakes: ABS, EBD is standard and comes with Front Disc Brakes and Rear Brake Drum. Yes the brakes are reasonably effective, but i would have loved, had Ford India offered in Rear Disc Brakes too (atleast in Diesel Engine) for even superior class leading braking. The Diesel Enthusiasts would have had loved it.

 

Suspension: The Suspension is on Softer Side, its tuned for comfort as what seen in Compact Sedan Cars. However, its Aspire sibling Freestyle Suspension,which actually feels better than Aspire. For any enthusiast or fun to drive lover will pick Freestyle against Aspire. The ability of Freestyle to take on bad roads is better as against Aspire

 

Styling, Aesthetics: Exterior Styling of Ford Aspire with all new Front Signature Grille looks lot more differentiating and styling. But the car lacks Projector Headlights and gimmick of LED DRL. The alloys looks okay, but lacks the style factor as what seen in Dzire having Precision cut Alloys. Rear Looks lot similar to outgoing Aspire

In Interiors - Dual Tone Sand and Light Oak Interiors as what Ford has given in Aspire with Piano Black Finish on Steering, Dashboard, Door Handles. Yes, no car in Compact Sedan Segment comes with Soft Touch Plastic, But it lacks the Wow appeal and does not look as premium as otherwise felt Honda Amaze, Dzire, Xcent or Volkswagen Ameo.

Overall in Styling appeal will rate the car as Neutral

 

Space: The Car is best for 4 Adults and 1 Kid. Legroom Space on rear Seat are Generous, Headroom Space is bit tight for Adults having height of 5’11” or higher on rear seat.

 

Warranty, Service Cost: Ford India offering 2 Year Standard Warranty and 3 Year Extended Warranty making total 5 Year Warranty on the car. The Service costs are much reasonable on the car and Ford India has localized the parts to make car service costs even more affordable. One can actually expect in Paid Service Bill of Rs 4500 - 5000 for Aspire Petrol and around Rs 6000 for Aspire Diesel making the car very well reasonable in Service Maintenance costs.

 

Some Minor Misses: No Projectors in Exteriors. In Interiors, No Door Pockets on Rear Doors, the Center Seat Armrest is welcome but it lacks Bottle Holder on Rear Armrest, No Driver side Armrest, Headroom space feels a bit squeeze for Taller Passenger on Rear Seat.

I wont say that rear AC Vents are a miss, as Ford AC Performance feels reasonably good and the competition cars offering Rear AC are more Blower Vents. For anyone going for Top Model can also complain of Missing Cruise Control Feature too.

Spare Wheel Size (a common thing across all Manufacturers) is smaller at R14 175/65 (in Titanium and Titanium Plus having 15 Inch Wheels)

 

Major Miss; Ford Aspire 1.5 Automatic as of now only available in Titanium, which means it comes with 7 Inch Flyaudio Touchscreen having Inbuilt Navigation. What it misses on - Ford Signature 6.5 Inch Sync3 Touchscreen and thus no Android Auto and no Apple Car Play for them. Also - no advanced safety Features of Side and Curtain Airbags available

Although Good Part is - Automatic Version gets ESP, Traction Control and Hill Launch Assist Feature in Aspire, while the Manual Version gets ABS, EBD and Dual Airbags as base Standard.

Another thing is Ford Aspire Manual Version misses on ESP, Traction Control, Hill Launch Assist which otherwise coming in Ford Freestyle (priced lower against Aspire). One can get Freestyle Titanium at price of Ford Aspire Trend Plus having advanced Safety.

Last - the Top End Model available with 6 Airbags, comes with Fabric Seats, Outgoing Aspire Top End used to come Leather Seats. Important to know that if you put After-market Seat Covers on Aspire Top End, it will impact in Functionality of Side and Curtain Airbags

Overall is Ford Aspire Good to Buy

All New Aspire feels like a Mix Breed of Ford Freestyle and Outgoing Aspire. While Front Grille

Considering Ford DNA of Diesel Engine Performance, Steering, Safety Features of 6 Airbags, Overall Cost of Ownership, Top Notch Sync3 Touchscreen Music System, Space for 4 Adults can make Ford Aspire a good buy

But seems something is not correct - as the car Surprisingly misses on some key element which as a package of misses would certainly strike the Prospective Buyer

» No Door Pockets on Rear Door, No Bottle Holder on Rear Armrest

» No Projectors Headlights which other than Styling also increases better light focus on Night Drive

» No ESP, Traction Control and Hill Launch Assist in any Variant in Manual Transmission

» No Sync3 Touchscreen and no Side and curtain Airbags in Automatic Transmission. Flyaudio Touchscreen in Trend Plus and Titanium lacks android Auto and Apple car Play

» Lesser Focus on making Car Interior Stylish. Also - seems half-hearted attempt by designer as no as such changes introduced in Side and Rear Profile
