Yellow light on having engine sign:  Cause of worry ? what to do - run to service center , tow the car or stop and wait for 5 minutes for light to go off

Well - any Car whether its Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford or Home Grown - Mahindra, Tata Motors or Luxury Brand like Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar can have any sudden day this Yellow Check Engine Light illuminate in Instrument Cluster

Its Important to know some car basics, so that in such an event you can take necessary steps.

First and Foremost of this Malfunction Indicator - you should need to know

1. Is Light Blinking

2. Is light Stable

If you are observing it for the very first time - suggest to stop the car in side for 10 minutes and then turn on ignition and see if any Warning Light showing. If not - well and good you can drive, but if again the Malfunction Light showing

1. If Check Engine Light blinking then it indicates a possible impact on Transmission system or Engine Misfiring or a serious issue with Car Catalytic Converter and needs to be addressed immediately. To Bhai-sabab suggest to get car towed

2. If Check Engine Light Stable but coupled with other Malfunction Light - it can indicate one or more issue. For example, if Oil Pressure light and Check Engine Light are illuminated, then it indicates either Oil Pressure low or Engine Oil Low. If for second case, check Engine Light with Battery light then either alternator not charging battery or battery weak

3. If its only Check Engine Light and its Stable -  Then how is the car on drive. If there is a loss of Power. Try to check and most probably your car would be emitting in excess smoke then again its a serious issue and possibly indicates an issue with Turbo-charger, EGR Valve. Get car drive at slow speed under 50 Kmph to the nearest Workshop

If stable and no such issues in driving then it indicates a warning, but no need to Panic. There could be as small as reason as

» Fuel cap been remained open,

» Higher Engine Temperature,  

» Fuel tank does not have pressure and lost air pressure

» Air may have entered in Fuel System,

» Air Filter possibly could have been clogged completely,

» Any Wiring been loose which is a possibility after car serviced in.

» Also more commonly seen in CNG Cars due to Emulator, Wiring

In rare case has the car met in Major Issue: ECU or Diesel EGR Valve issue - which is an expensive replacement

Although you can visit in car workshop where they have OEM approved ECU scanner to detect the issue. But - If in case you need to diagnose the issue on your own then can buy OBD Device. Pls note that all Modern age Cars sold in last 20 years are ECU Controlled. The ECU is like brain of Engine Management System and the readings are well read by OBD Port
