VIP Number Auction Process for Car

VIP Number Auction Process is almost happening in Most of the RTO through bidding process.

For Instance, if we talk about Delhi - A Series of VIP Numbers will be put for Sale in Delhi including 0001. There will be a base price fixed for each number and bidding will begin atleast from the base reserve price.

How to Bid and Auction for VIP Number

• Now - the entire process is Centralized. One has to Register Online on Ministry of Road Transport and Highway - Site is

You have to Sign up for a New Account as New Public User who is Interested in getting VIP Number for the car. Once registered have to Activate Account

• The Brief Process in Graphical Form

• Once Registered and Logged in, will find 2 Options as - Proceed to Auction Process, Proceed to First Come First Serve Basis

In Proceed to First Come First Serve (Non VIP Number)

You will get Vehicle Series running basis RTO and choose and Punch in any number of your Choice. If its Fancy Number you will get Prompt and has to go via Auction Process. Like 1000, 1111.

However if its any regular number and is available you have to make payment of Rs 25,000 for same. Like Number chosen as 9876

In Proceed to Auction Process (VIP Number / Fancy Number)

• Every Vehicle will have to be registered separately for bidding on the VIP Number. 

• Reserve Price for VIP Number. The minimum reserve price for VIP Numbers in Delhi

Category 1 - for Super Elite Number 0001 - Rs. 5 Lakh

Category 2 - for Single Digit Number 0002, 0003, 0004, 0004, 0005, 0006, 0007, 0008, 0009 -  Rs. 3 Lakh

Category 3 - For Numbers like 0786, 1111, 7777, 9999 and double digit numbers between 0010 to 0099 - Rs. 2 Lakh

Category 4 - For Numbers: 0100, 0111, 0200, 0222, 0300, 0333, 0400, 0444, 0500, 0555 0600, 0666, 0700, 0777, 0800, 0888, 0900, 0999, 2000, 2222 3000, 3333, 4000, 4444, 5000, 5555, 6000, 6666, 7000, 8000, 8888, 9000, 0101, 0108, 1008, & 1313 - Rs. 1 Lakh

Note : Timing for bidding will be between 10.30 am and 5 pm on days allotted to bidding and can be done in multiples of Rs.5000. Even Registration can only be done from 10.30 am to 5 pm. 

» The Bidder needs to register Online by submitting his ID Proof and Address Proof and generate UAN Number as Acknowledgement

» Also - registration fee of Rs 1000 need to be paid Online, which is non-refundable, so whether the bid is success or not the amount will not be returned.

» For the Number Bidding - the Base Reserve Price also needs to be paid Online (which is refundable post bidding 30 days in case on bid as not the highest bid). Else, in case the bid finishes at reserve price - the same will be deposited in RTO Account

» Bid for the Number from the Series of Numbers Put up for Bidding. All bidding will be done Online only, for a period of 3 Days (Registration Will however be allowed upto 8 days pre auction). Maximum Bidding will be done for 10 Numbers by One User

» On the Day of Bid - the bidder can increase the bid in multiples of Rs 1000

» Winning bidder, can then make payment to the nearest RTO office for obtaining the number plate.

» Maximum Time Period allowed to get number registered is 90 Days. Else the amount paid will be forfeited

States Already Doing Auction / Selling of VIP Numbers

Most of the States, Cities have already implemented e-Auction as been Centralised process of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Goa, Karnataka, Mumbai and some other states and Union Territories.

The Bid for few VIP Number has already crossed more than Rs 20 Lakh as observed in auction

Government Officials Eligible for VIP Number

However, there are List of Government officials / Ministers who are eligible for issuance of VIP NO. i.e ( 01-100 and 0786) without any payment charges or fees or bids. Details enclosed below :-

• Official vehicle of Hon’ble Judges of Supreme court, High Court
• Lok Sabha Speaker along with Deputy Speaker. Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly
• Union Minister, Chief Secretary of NCT of Delhi
• Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition
• Mayor of Delhi. MP, MLAs, Senior officers of GNCTD i.e IAS and JAG level DANICS Officers with condition that only one vehicle in there own name
