'Teflon Coating' is a word which is Popularly used by

  • Car Detailing Solution Providers

as a Paint Protection Coating, or in layman words as a coating done to enhance Paint Life by adding a protective layer on Car Paint. Essentially below Benefits are what said by Executives in name of Teflon Coating

1. Car Paint will begin to shine after Teflon and even minor scratches will also be removed.

2. Acts as a Paint Protection and Provides a layer for preventing Minor Scratches. Though - Modern age cars comes with Class Leading Top of Line Paint Booth Treatment - but using Teflon will add a Glossy New Car appeal to it (albeit this needs to be done periodically for best results)

3. Helps in Improving the Paint Life of the car, if done on regular basis

and for same generally Rs 7000 - 7500 used to be charge by Workshops, Detailing Solution in name of Teflon Coating.

 

 

What is Teflon ? Reality

Teflon is a chemical form of synthetic fluoropolymer, which is

  • Non sticky 
  • Reduces friction on the material applied upon
  • Claimed to material body from Corrosion, Dullness, Wear and Tear in both high and low temperatures

So, although it may appear impressive to get Teflon Coating on your Car, and before you make up your mind, please note some facts about Teflon Coating for Cars

  • Teflon a registered Trade Mark brand of Chemours
  • Automotive Manufacturers in several countries uses Teflon at Manufacturing Stage to provide low-friction body surface so as to prevent wear and tear from both High and Low Temperature
  • There is no such 'Teflon Coating' product which can be made by any company except Chemours as 'Teflon' is a registered Patented Trade Mark of Chemours Company.
  • We personally checked with Chemours India, as per there official they are not offering Teflon for Retail Automotive application in India, and no such 'Teflon Coating' product for sale in after-market detailing solution market in India.
  • What is done on name of Teflon coating by most of the workshops, is more like Waxing and Machine Polishing in India, as Teflon Coating Solution for Automobiles are not available in Retail Market in India. 
  • If any Inferior Counterfeit Brand chosen in name of Teflon, then in likely scenario, the coating may even come down with cracks and will even look worse than the original paint on the car

What you Paying for ? Teflon or Waxing &  Polishing

If the Dealer Claiming to show Teflon Box - Its very important to check the Authenticity. No Company can make Teflon Product other than Chemours. Also, its not available in Retail Markets in India

Either 

  • A Counterfeit Product used, which can further be detrimental to Car Paint. Essentially - the Car Surface is Washed, Cleaned and dried Completely. Then a coating is applied on the entire body in lubricate form which is given around 15 to 20 Minutes to dry it. The car is then Machine polished, aka as Car Buffing, and you will find Car Shining with a Bill in range of Rs 5000 to 7000. Dealer will tell you to visit after 6 months for one more coating with 2 year warranty. Its not 'Teflon Coating'. Beware !!

  • Your Car Detailing Center offering you Wax and Polishing. Wax Polishing is more like Rubbing the Surface of the car to clean and make it shine. However, Waxing is generally done after Polish. Once the surface becomes smooth after Polish, the waxing is done to improve paint life and simultaneously makes the body go shine

Hello, I have a new car Hyundai grand i10 purchased in December 2017, I take good car of my car, but the kids in our colony keep on scratching the car,should I go for polishing from Hyundai service centre or can I go to any place and get it done. Or should I leave it as it is.
