Maruti Suzuki Engine Oil Guide

Car Engine is like the Heart of Car and to keep same in Best of condition is recommended for

  • Replace Engine Oil based on recommended Service Schedule by Manufacturer either based on Kms or Time Usage which ever earlier
  • Choosing Correct Oil Viscosity and Grade

Timely replacement of Engine Oil is a key Critical component for Long Lasting Engine Performance along with Refinement and Smooth Driving Output.

Some Important FAQ Before you Change Car Engine Oil

Q, My Car Running is Low, Should i Still replace Engine Oil ?

A. Oil Molecules tends to breakup over period of time and if not replaced over recommended schedule then this can end up leading to thinner oil. Now car when driven with broken oil molecules and thinner oil leads to friction among engine components with faster wear & tear.

So even if your Car Running is lower say covered just 3000 Kms a year - should go with replacement of Engine Oil for Ideal Protection to Car Engine

Q. What is the Difference in 0W-16, 0W-20, 5W-30 Oil Viscosity Grade ?

A. Viscosity Grade is basically the thickness been defined for Engine Oil and defines the stress holding capacity

  • Like in above 0W means Winter Grade - Vehicle can start easily in even Coldest or Freezing Conditions. The Oil is relative thin enough to free flow across all components, while 5W is slight thicker Oil
  • For Second Part (Temperature Grade) - Here it means the maximum thickness of Oil when Car Engine attains 100 Degree Celsius. 20 is slight thin, 30 is slight thick and 40 is thicker Engine Oil

Its important to follow Oil recommendation as given in Owner Manual as this is what determines the flow of Oil to Engine Components providing the best protection against Friction.

Is Switching from Synthetic Oil to Mineral Oil or Mineral to Synthetic Oil a Problem ?

A. If your Car Engine has Synthetic Oil in the past and you plan to replace with Mineral Oil or had Mineral Oil in the past and you plan to replace with Synthetic Oil then do note that its Perfectly fine to replace with same. However Whats important

  • Choose Correct Oil Viscosity as what recommended in Owner Manual
  • Ensure that Oil should be drained in complete and Oil Filter be replaced along with same

I have scross 1.3. as per manual is suggest 5w30 A5/b5, whereas you are suggesting both 5w30 A5/b5 and 5w40 A3/b4. Will 5w30 a3/b4 will also be suitable? Also which one is better shell helix or Castrol edge ?

For heavy city drives 5w30 helix or edge is suitable. For combined city and more highway 5w40 idemitsu or edge is better.

Horrible to use 20w50. Please get 5W30 from Motul or Idemitsu. Go for synthetic oil only.

Sir,
I have Maruti Wagon R LXI 1.0L 2011 model. For the past three years I observe MASS replaces 0W20 engine oil. But in my manual, it is 5W30 engine oil. Also I observed that while raising speed above 80Kmph, unpleasant noise experienced which makes me to maintain the speed at 80Kmph on highways. But before, even if I cruise above 100Kmph no rough noise. 0W20 is good below 60Kmph. Last service I informed to the MASS, but they told Maruti issued circular to follow 0W20 for all K series engines. Please confirm whether I have to stick with manual that is 5W30 engine oil or Maruti latest recommended engine oil 0W20.

I was completely unaware of the engine oil grades and by mistake I allowed the Shell Petroleum guy to replace my Swift Petrol Engine Oil with Shell 20W50 oil recently. It has run only 300 km after that. Can I continue to use the car or I shall immediately change the oil to recommended grade of 5W30 or 0W20 kind of oil? Pls guide me asap.
