Maruti Baleno Diesel Ownership Review
Maruti Baleno within a Year has emerged as huge success - outperforming Honda Jazz and selling as good as what erstwhile leader Hyundai I20 is in the market
Been there are many rumors spreading on Baleno - Suspension, Under Powered Diesel Engine, Vibrations, Low Mileage spreading across - here is review of 2 Owners of Maruti Baleno having driven the car for more than 10000 Kms.
Baleno Issues Problems as Spreading | 1st Owner Experience on Baleno Diesel | 2nd Owner Experience on Baleno Diesel |
Rear Suspension Issue | Rear suspension is a bit hard keep your tyre pressure at 29 its not that big issue then | Suspension feels just okay, though Not too smooth and not very rigid, which plays a major role in better handling. This is well compared to Hyundai i20 as I have driven |
Higher Diesel Engine Noise | I have faced noise issue only when my alignment is out or on very bad roads. | Maruti Baleno Noise levels are very much acceptable, as I find it to be one among more Silent cabins, especially if you test drive against Jazz Diesel. |
Poor Build Quality | It is just that the outer panels of Baleno are made of a lighter metal. But i feel that the main security bars and structure important in case of accident is made of quality material. Baleno got 3 star Safety rating and this is the same model been manufactured in India and exported to other countries, I am confident that car security structure would be of Good Quality | Better call it poor sheet metal quality. And the plastic on dash board is not so good. But quite fine. |
Vibrations on High Speed | A Myth. Have driven at high speed beyond 100 Kmph at numerous times and its been over a year and have not faced any vibrations. If you still feel to make out the issue, it could possibly be there as the car does not have 6th Gear, and may just feel roaring on very high speed without 6th Gear, as the car will have high rpm on 5th Gear on higher speeds | I've reached a speed of 120 kmph with 4 people on board. Baleno Diesel was steady and without complaints. These complaints of Vibrations can only happen if you drive with a wheel alignment issue or overinflated tyres which may cause bouncing feel on very high speed. Always get Tyre pressure checked and alignment every 5000 Kms - no issues of Vibrations in the car |
Diesel Engine is Underpowered | If you compare the power to body weight - then Baleno Diesel has almost similar power to body weight as in Hyundai I20. But - engine is not under-powered, It may just be that I20 or Jazz due to bigger 1.4 Litre and 1.5 Litre Diesel engine with higher torque may feel more lively on higher speed or 6th Gear | Depends on how you drive Baleno Diesel. You can not expect Baleno Diesel to reach 0 to 100 Kmph in 7 to 8 seconds as what Audi, BMW are. If you are realistic and look for Power Output performance then till the speed of 120 Kmph there are no issues as what i have driven. Cant comment if you feel to drive on insane speed of 150 or 160 Kmph |
Alloys Feel very Ordinary | This is a perception question. well alloys as per functionality are very good no problem but if u dont like how they look u can alwayz buy a new one | I'm also not a fan of the stock wheels too. Got alloy Wheels changed in my car with better looking Alloy Wheels |
Baleno Diesel High Mileage not True | well it depends how u drive and also how long you are running on a constant speed. If you are changing gears at the right speed and braking is right this car gives you good mileage. for starters try to limit yourself to 80-85 and check mileage. Depending on the road I am consistently getting average more than 23 Kmpl and on some good long trips and 18 to 20 Kmph in city driving alone. | I am bit of a fast driver, I am good at shifting gears at appropriate RPM but i drive at 100 to 120, so i am getting around 20Kmpl |
Expert Comment on Baleno Suspension
New Maruti Baleno seems improved a lot from the suspension issue, which it was reported in its initial batch of cars. The car behaves well and it now handles surprisingly well on bad patch roads and expect the drive to be comfortable
As long as the tyre pressure is correct, no alignment issues – you can expect Suspension of Baleno to be equally good, as what competition cars are offering. For Previous Baleno Owners - if you feeling in suspension problem, you can replace in Rear Shock Absorber. It cost around rs 2400 for each rear side shocker, so by spending in Rs 4800 and can definite improve the feedback of drive multi-fold.
