Find Manufacturing Year
 of Car (Decode Details)

» 10th Digit of VIN: Look for 10th Digit of VIN Chassis Number for Below referred Car Manufacturers only. It would be either L or K (if trying to decode in 2020 Manufacturing Car (L) or 2019 Manufacturing Car (K)

  • Hyundai - Eon, i10, Grand i10, Nios, Xcent, Elite I20, I20 Active, Venue, Verna, Creta, Elantra, Tucson, Santa Fe, Sonata
  • Nissan Motors & Datsun India - Datsun Redi Go, Go, Go Plus, Redi Go, Micra Active, Micra, Sunny, Kicks
  • Tata Motors - Indica Ev2, Tiago, Tigor, Bolt, Zest, Nexon, Safari Storme, Hexa, Harrier

» Jeep Compass: Look for 20th Digit of VIN Chassis Number for Jeep Compass, Wrangler - You should look at 20th Digit (MCAPQDBY0HFA90134*1L) which is the last digit. Here L represent Manufacturing Year means 2020 Make, had it been K it would have meant 2019 make

» Maruti Suzuki Cars VIN Decode: There can be 2 Ways in which can find Manufacturing Year.

  • If 10th and 11th Characters are Zero or 11: In this case, you have to Open Bonnet and check for last 2 VIN Digits after 17th Digit x sign. Last Digit indicates Year of Make. Generally applicable on Maruti Suzuki Nexa Series (Ignis, Baleno, S Cross, Ciaz, XL6) or New Age Dzire, Brezza. For ex : $MA3EYD32S00700400$AG - So Here Last Digit is G - Which means year of Manufacturing is 2016. Second Last Digit A represents month - so Jan 2016 Manufacturing would have in AG as the last characters, Had the last 2 Digits been AL it meant January 2020 Manufactured Car

Here's Picture for Finding Chassis Number for Maruti Suzuki Cars

    b2ap3_thumbnail_Maruti-Chassis.jpg

  • If 10th and 11th Characters are NOT Zero Zero (00) or 11:  As per updates, this 10th Digit will also help in finding in Manufacturing year where 10th Digit and 11th Digit are NOT 00 and NEITHER 11. If 10th Digit is L it means your Maruti Suzuki Car is 2020 Manufactured, else for K is 2019 Manufactured

» Ford Cars VIN Decode In Ford: Figo, Aspire, Freestyle, Ecosport, Endeavour 11th Letter will denote year of Manufacture.

» Toyota Cars VIN Decode: Etios, Glanza, Altis, Innova, Fortuner: its a 21 Digit VIN a combination of 20th n 21st Letter (in Numeric Terms) makes up for the manufacturing year. Like 11 for 2011, 12 for 2012 and 13 for 2013, 14 for 2014 and same way 18 for 2018, 19 for 2019 and 20 for 2020

» General Motors (Chevrolet India): the 9th letter denotes the Year of Make  - Spark, Beat, Sail Hatch, Sail Sedan, Enjoy, Tavera

Hi Gagan,

Thanks for the helpful article!

Do Manufacturers share VIN coding system on their website or in their service centers?

I see lots of users asking help to decode VIN here as well as on other forums. I can build a simple page where people can enter VIN number and in response know details of vehicle. But for that VIN coding system would be needed.

Where is the best place to get that for different manufacturers?

Regards,
Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

No - its not been shared by Manufacturers and neither by service center - atleast in Indian market
If a customer intends - either he can decode on his own or ask for Sale Certificate i.e Form 21 - which a dealer also submit a copy in RTO mentioning Year and month of registration

The info presented above is all learnt from know how in Automotive sector and put up in easy and simple one pager article through this post

Dear Mr. Gagan,

I bought Ciaz RS SHVS and on inspection of car prior to billing and registration found that there was defect in paint work on the bonnet and dent was there. So I refused to approve the car for billing. On this dealer first said there nothing and on pursuance accepeted the defect and suggested that another car in same colour in my model is not there and henec he will get the bonnet replaced with same color of other car with him. On doing this the alignment was not proper and I refused.

I got suspicious and also found out that the plant sticker for QC inspection of car is torn and found to be old or repasted and printing of numbers alao damaged and nit full mentioned aome portion was missing since stickwr qas torn, whereas as per dealer manufacturing date of car is only 4-5 days old. There was rust mark on the centre bolt of the front wheel also.

I think there ia something fishy from the dealer end.

Please give your views.

Hello,

You can cross check for manufacturing date as referred through VIN Chassis number - in sequence like - $MA3xxxxxxxxxxxxxx$EG
Where last digit G indicates year of manufacturing as 2016
While E indicates month - If its May 2016 make - it should be E

Still - basis the defect in paint work and rust - would suggest to avoid delivery and submit a written emailed complaint to dealer that you dont want delivery of this defective car and instruct clearly to not to invoice the model with vin chassis number

Also - keep Maruti Suzuki in loop with details - so that an intervention from manufacturer can be done in getting a different car with same color or indent a new one with delivery on asap basis

Hi I am about to purchase Swift VXI with the chassis number: MA3EHKD1S00A57467. But since the vehicle is in transit, hence not able to see the last 2 digit after the special character.
Hence can anyone please help me in decoding the chassis number?.
Also, my dealer says, that they only have 17 digits of the chassis number as of now, so is he lying or he is being true?.
Please let me know as I am going to pay some amount to get the car allotted to me.
