Crash Test Report of Indian Cars

NCAP - New Car Assessment Programme , Global NCAP is International agency which provide report of vehicle safety initiatives and is accepted Globally. 

Some of Top Selling Indian Cars which are recently been assessed by Global NCAP are :-

» Entry Hatch : Tata Nano , Maruti Alto 800

» Hatch : Hyundai I10, Ford Figo

» Premium Hatch : Volkswagen Polo

There are 2 Parameters for Assessment :- 56 Km/hr Speed and 64 Km/hr Speed. As per Test Report - 40 per cent offset frontal impact test at 56km/hr, now widely applied by major manufacturing countries and regions, including Australia, China, European Union, Japan and Malaysia. 

However these are different from Indian Regulatory Authorities - wherein frontal barrier crash is prescribed at speed of 48 Km/hr

Test Report at 56 Km/hr

Tata Nano, Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai I10 - are called as highly unsafe cars to be fatal even with Airbags

Vehicle structures proved inadequate and collapsed to varying degrees, resulting in high risks of life-threatening injuries to the occupants.  

Test Report at 64 Km/hr 

If you see the table under-neath, the first column after the cars shows number of Airbags, second column shows safety for front seat passengers and third column rating shows Rear Child Safety Seat Rating.

Zero-star rating for its adult occupant protection- Tata Nano, Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai I10 are considered unstable in Vehicle Structure with Life threatening Injuries

Zero-star rating for its adult occupant protection- Ford Figo & Volkswagen Polo (without Airbags) vehicle structure was marked stable, but due to lack of Airbags too much of crash force can harm front passenger

Only Volkswagen Polo with Airbags has passed the test. Note - Volkswagen India has announced that All Models manufactured now from 1st Feb 2014 across all variants of Polo will now come with Airbags

Dear sir,
I wish to buy a seven seater family car. I drive only 1000 km per month. Hence I decided to go for petrol cars, Honda brv or MS ertiga. Which one is better to choose, fuel economy is not my concern, suggest based on build quality, safety and other factors.

only ncap test qualified vehicle allow for public and fail vehicle comes on road.it is responsibility of indian govt take manufacturer as per ipc307.

i think that other cars like hyundai eon, chevrolet spark, maruti wagon r, tata indica, hyundai santro, maruti a star and all other should also pass through this test
let the eyes gets wide open with these results. is that a reason of so many casualties in indian road accidenrts
