BH Bharat Number Plate Registration Process, Road Tax Rates and FAQs Explained

BH Series Bharat Number Plate now available Online. Know BH Series Number Registration Process with Road Tax Rates as calculated in same

BH Bharat Series Number

Gone are the days of State Level Number Plates like DL for Delhi, MH for Maharastra, KA for Karnataka as finally we have Bharat Series Number Plates in India which will start as BH Registration Mark

Why Bharat Series Number Plate

As of now rules are whenever a vehicle owner due to transferrable nature of his job move to other state or Union Territory and plan to stay for more than 12 Months . So for using the car there - he also is required to obtain NOC, apply for re-registration in other state, pay applicable road tax in new state as per tax slabs and then apply for refund of tax on pro-rata basis in home state

What Bharat Series Number Plate implies - BH Car Registration Number is Valid acorss India. Thats means Owner due to transferrable nature of job move to any State or Union Territory do not need to re-register car (as otherwise is case where car need to re-register if taken for more than 12 Months)

Thus it simplifies the process as Free Movement to any state or Union Territory without any concern for re-registration and road tax.

Road Tax Slabs for BH Series Number Plate

Another key highlight is that Road Tax Slabs will be

Price of Car Road Tax on EV Road Tax on Petrol, CNG Cars Road Tax on Diesel Cars
Below 10 Lakh 6% 8% 10%
10 Lakh - 20 Lakh 8% 10% 12%
> 20 Lakh 10% 12% 14%

irrespective of engine capacity, ground clearance of car - which otherwise used as classification in state level road Tax.

Important: However, this tax was initially planned to applied on Invoice Price of Car but as per latest Update available - Invoice Price would be what Ex-showroom Price of Car for Road Tax Calculation Price.

So while Invoice Price of Car was 9.64 Lakh but for Road Tax calculation will be done on 9.99 Lakh

Calculation of Road Tax for Bharat Series Number Plate

Road Tax unlike other states, Union Territories is paid for Lifetime as for 15 Years

But in case of Bharat Series Number - road tax is paid on Pro Rata Basis for every 2 Years and will be calculated as an example

For Instance say Tata Nexon XZ Plus Petrol exshowroom Price is Rs 9,99,900 without any discounts

In this case tax will be calculated as :-   .08*2*999900/15  . Means Rs 10.665 road tax needs to be paid every 2 Years.

Although same expected to begin in 1 to 2 weeks and expected to roll out by Festive Navratri Season and will be available Online through Parivahan

In terms of Process - important to note that entire Process is Digital and no need to submit any physical documents to RTO. Your Car Dealer will only do Process :-

  • Dealer will fill Form 20 for Vehicle Registration on Vahan Portal with Details of Car, Owner, Bank Financing Details etc.
  • There he will select Bharat Series Number Plate as registration option
  • Will upload your ID, Address Proof and Office ID Card or Form 60
  • The same will go for approval in RTO - who will check and verify documents and approve same
  • Once approved - Dealer can then pay in Road Tax as what collected from consumer on 2 Year Pro Rata Basis

After every 2 years, then Owner needs to directly pay in Road Tax on Vahan Site by verifying with Car Registration Number and Chassis Number.

Hi,
If I opt for BH series number plate , will Municipality tax get include in car price calculations while buying the car?
I can see that if I opt for normal state registration they are adding ex-showroom+ state rto+insurance+municipality tax.
So for BH series doen municipality tax applied.
If NO can you please share some link which will help me share this to dealer.

Hi Team,

Can you please confirm whether the company where the employee is working should have offices in Minimum 4 States OR in More than 4 States?

Also, it will be very kind of your team if they can update the same in "Who are Eligible For Bharat Series Number Plate.." and "Form 60 here means a Letterhead Declaration.." sections of the blog to keep the information consistent. Thanks.

Hi, Team,

Thanks for the informative blog.

I have one query that is in the "Who are Eligible For Bharat Series Number Plate" section of this blog it's written that the company where the employee is working should have offices in "MINIMUM" 4 States or Union Territories. Yet, in the "Form 60 here means.." section of the blog it's written that the Form 60 should mention that the Offices are in "MORE" than 4 States with Address Details.

Please clarify which information is correct and it would be very helpful for people to understand as well. Thanks.

yes, you should prove that you have a local address, I will suggest you make a notary document and/or rental agreement of that state and register the car.

in my case, I work in Karnataka and my permanent address proof in Maharashtra (passport / Voter id/licence ) and I am doing BH registeraction

Hello sir,

I am eligible for BH series registration. I can get the form 60 filled by my company but the problem is recently I've joined the company and i haven't received my ID card yet and i am not sure I'll get it before delivery of the car. My car delivery is in approx 15 days. Is there any alternative of the ID card ? RTO may reject my application so.

Hi, I meet the BH registration criteria, as I work for MNC with more than 4 offices in different states/UTs. Due to ongoing WFH option, I am currently not residing in the city where I work, but I am in my hometown (which is my permanent address / Aadhar address). Can I buy a car from home town with BH registration instead of buying it from the city where I work. Please confirm.. thanks..

Yes you can. My MNC's base location is Kolkata. My ID's permanent address is different than my working city. I purchased TVS RTR 160 4V Special Edition from my hometown and dealer applied for BH series on my request. The RTO has approved and got my BH series number.

In this case , where does the RTO request goes to ? was that RTO request go to RTO based on Personal ID card location's RTO or Where you are working location's RTO ? I have the similar case so I am not sure where my request will go for approval.

Hi
Thanks for sharing these information.
I am planning to buy Altroz XM+, via CSD. CSD price is 5,90,364 and to get BH Registration based on the formula you provided above the price of Road Tax is 6,297. Let me know if this is correct? So for CSD cars, the TAX will be on CSD prices or Ex-Showroom prices?

FYIm, Altroz XM+ in showroom costs 6,50,000.
