Gone are the days of State Level Number Plates like DL for Delhi, MH for Maharastra, KA for Karnataka as finally we have Bharat Series Number Plates in India which will start as BH Registration Mark
Why Bharat Series Number Plate
As of now rules are whenever a vehicle owner due to transferrable nature of his job move to other state or Union Territory and plan to stay for more than 12 Months . So for using the car there - he also is required to obtain NOC, apply for re-registration in other state, pay applicable road tax in new state as per tax slabs and then apply for refund of tax on pro-rata basis in home state
What Bharat Series Number Plate implies - BH Car Registration Number is Valid acorss India. Thats means Owner due to transferrable nature of job move to any State or Union Territory do not need to re-register car (as otherwise is case where car need to re-register if taken for more than 12 Months)
Thus it simplifies the process as Free Movement to any state or Union Territory without any concern for re-registration and road tax.

Important: However, this tax was initially planned to applied on Invoice Price of Car but as per latest Update available - Invoice Price would be what Ex-showroom Price of Car for Road Tax Calculation Price.
So while Invoice Price of Car was 9.64 Lakh but for Road Tax calculation will be done on 9.99 Lakh
Calculation of Road Tax for Bharat Series Number Plate
Road Tax unlike other states, Union Territories is paid for Lifetime as for 15 Years
But in case of Bharat Series Number - road tax is paid on Pro Rata Basis for every 2 Years and will be calculated as an example
For Instance say Tata Nexon XZ Plus Petrol exshowroom Price is Rs 9,99,900 without any discounts
In this case tax will be calculated as :- .08*2*999900/15 . Means Rs 10.665 road tax needs to be paid every 2 Years.

Who are Eligible For Bharat Series Number Plate
Only Salaried are Eligible for Bharat Series Number with even conditions
- Any Central Government Employee (State Government Employee is not eligible)
- Any Employee in PSU Undertaking
- Private Sector Employee but with a condition as that the company where that employee is working should have offices in minimum 4 States or Union Territories
What Documents are Required for Registration
Below are documents for Vehicle Registration for BH Series Number Plate
- PAN Card
- Office ID Card (for Government Employee or PSU Employee) / Form 60 for Private Sector Employee
- Aadhar Card (if address matches current address)
- Any Utility Bill / Bank Statement / LIC Policy Copy / Landline Bill (if Aadhar address do not match with current address)
Form 60 here means a Letterhead Declaration by Employer that
- They have Offices in more than 4 States with Address Details
- You are Permanent Employee of Company

Whats the Process for Bharat Series Number Plate Registration
At the time of writing this post - As checked in Delhi, UP Dealers, Karnataka Dealers, Maharastra Dealers - all stating that process yet to begin. When checked further - its referred that Allotment of Number Series not yet started.
Although same expected to begin in 1 to 2 weeks and expected to roll out by Festive Navratri Season and will be available Online through Parivahan
In terms of Process - important to note that entire Process is Digital and no need to submit any physical documents to RTO. Your Car Dealer will only do Process :-
- Dealer will fill Form 20 for Vehicle Registration on Vahan Portal with Details of Car, Owner, Bank Financing Details etc.
- There he will select Bharat Series Number Plate as registration option
- Will upload your ID, Address Proof and Office ID Card or Form 60
- The same will go for approval in RTO - who will check and verify documents and approve same
- Once approved - Dealer can then pay in Road Tax as what collected from consumer on 2 Year Pro Rata Basis
- After Payment of Road Tax is Bharat Series Number Allotted on Random Basis and Fee Payment Receipt is what issued in favor of customer.
After every 2 years, then Owner needs to directly pay in Road Tax on Vahan Site by verifying with Car Registration Number and Chassis Number.
What the Number Plate will Look Like
This will be Number of Bharat Series Car where
- YY - Denotes Year of Registration. So if you car getting registered in 2021 it will come as 21
- BH - Signifies Bharat Series Registration Mark
- #### - This is 4 Digit Vehicle Registration Number as generated randomly by System, Ex. 0789
- XX = These are what Alphabet Series. Like AA, AB, AC, CD
So BH Series Number Plate will look like - 21 BH 0789 AA
This will be embossed in Black Letters on White Number Plate
- Commercial Registration is not Allowed
- Any Fancy Number or VIP Number request is not permitted as number randomly generated by system.
