Automated Manual Transmission technology has become a hit with Maruti Celerio. Know Upcoming Cars in India expected to come with Auto Gear Shift
Updated in December 2016
Wondering what is AMT or Auto Gear Shift Technology ?
In Manual Transmission cars - the driver changes gears by pressing clutch - basis the speed acceleration of the vehicle. But AMT is bit different - Its a technological device which takes over the car transmission system - by performing clutch movement and gear shift automatically through its inbuilt Electro Hydraulic Shift Mechanism.
One does not need a clutch pedal in AMT Cars. The sensors, processors and actuators in the Electro Hydraulic Module in AMT device automatically :-
» Open & Close the Clutch
» Performs Gear Shifts
Even it takes over Transmission System to choose - Manual or Automatic Mode as per convenience of driver.
Thus - The Technological Advancement takes over the clutch operation to do Automatically with much more finesse and perfection without any manual intervention. Been the gear change is done at ideal speed - one can expect AMT Cars to be performing well on fuel efficiency and mileage.
How is AMT Car Different from Automatic ?
AMT Cars have dual Transmission system - Manual & Automatic.
In AMT Cars - it do have clutch but without clutch pedal, as the AMT Device manages clutch and gear shift movement Automatically (without manual intervention) and delivers best in class fuel efficiency too. While in Automatic Cars - they dont have Clutch at all but rather use Torque Converter, which through its transmission fluid transfers power to the engine motor to control Engine Speed.
AMT Positive: The Biggest Positive of AMT is in City Ride Condition - where in Traffic - one is at at absolute ease with Creep Function and ability to crawl with Top notch convenience. You would actually feel in no difference in AMT and Automatic - where most of the drive is in City Traffic
AMT Negative : However - where one has to Drive on Slopes - its advisable always put in Manual Mode as the AMT if detected 2nd Gear will slow down to the point that cars behind you would think you have stalled. Similarly on a downward slope too .
