» Synthetic Oil : The capacity of Engine Oil is slight more in Diesel Cars. Also, some of diesel hatch & sedan recommends Synthetic Oil (which though is considered much improved over Mineral Oil) is priced almost 3 to 4 times as against Mineral Oil and is big culprit for jacking up Service costs. For Instance:- Engine Oil used is Mineral Oil in Petrol (Hatch Car) which costs Rs. 850 for 3 Lit, while in Diesel it will cost approx Rs. 2900. Also, Coolant which is poured in Diesel Cars is priced almost 40% higher due to higher additives
» Service Interval : Service Interval including replacement of Fuel Filter, Air Filter and wear & tear of parts happens more quickly as against Petrol Cars and is required to be replaced much quickly as against Petrol Cars, however Petrol Cars has additional minor expenditure of Spark Plug replacement which will cost Rs. 300 - 400 (expected from 20K - 30K Kms) .
» Other Parts : In terms of Part Replacement - Clutch Plate like cost much higher in Diesel Cars. Also, Battery Replacement which is generally done after 3 to 4 yrs - is priced almost 35% - 40% higher than Petrol cars.
On overall basis - the extent could be 50p per Km (Especially where Synthetic Oil is used) with Diesel Cars in Initial 4 yrs and can tend to be higher on Longer term basis. (In Rupee terms - its in range of Rs. 12,000 - 15,000, for every 30,000 Kms as higher Maintenance Cost of Diesel Cars as against Petrol Cars. )
