Suggest a family sedan car in 7 Lakh - 9 Lakh Price Budget

I want to purchase a new sedan car for my family of 4 persons (2 adults myself & my wife & 2 children aged 11 & 8 yrs old) on or before Deepawali this year. My requirements are of a Sedan Car between 7 to 9 lacs budget, monthly running 400 KM per month (around 70% on highway & 30% in city), low maintenance cost, value for money with all safety & comfort features, excellent after sales service and support & easy availability of spares for next 10 years. It will be a self driven & shall be kept for the next 10-12 yrs. It will be the second car in my house alongwith the existing Maruti 800.

I have shortlisted the following petrol cars.

1. Honda City 1.5S

2. Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.6 SX VTVT

I equally like both the cars & am confused to take the final call to book the vehicle. I request your goodself to guide me to finally decide the car. Secondly, will it be a right decesion to buy a petrol car now, when the petrol prices are rising every fortnight? My friends are advicing & stressing me for purchase of a diesel car preferably Maruti Dezire or Toyota Etios. Please give your advice for selection of car in my budget. You may suggest any other car of your choice too citing the reason to choose it. Also guide me what is the life of a petrol & diesel engine in a well maitained sedan car?

    Hello Parveen Sahab,

Lets break your question to answer it

monthly running 400 KM per month.... will it be a right decesion to buy a petrol car now, when the petrol prices are rising every fortnight? My friends are advicing & stressing me for purchase of a diesel car

On a drive of 400 Kms in a month - even if we consider the worst mileage from Petrol and Best mileage in Diesel - the max saving you will have is Rs. 1200 - 1300 pm which translates to 15,000 Rs a year. No point in extending budget by 1 - 1.5 Lac and buy a Diesel car - where you may experience low savings and relatively higher maintenance costs on a longer run

Our Reco -- Go with Petrol Car

For the second part - about choosing car
See if you intend to hold the car for a long term then car should be futuristic with loads of features to be a pleasure and fun to drive

Though both City and Verna have Power Steering, All 4 Door Power Window, Remote Central Lock, ABS, Dual Front Airbags, Alloys, Defogger etc

However - Hyundai Fluidic Verna has an edge over Honda City SMT in terms of features
    - 16 Inch Alloy Wheel as against 15 Inch of Honda City - Adds on comfort and smoothness to drive
    - Fluidic Verna has additionally Foldable ORVM, Cooled Glove Box, Automatic Climate Control, Rear View Camera with Parking Sensors and Music System with CD Player
Honda City does not have any of above features and instead of CD Player have I-pod with USB and Aux Support

However, we observed and found City to be better in terms of rear seats due to more recline and comfort in nature. Also - Honda V-tec Engine is World class and has impeccable technology - giving it an advantage over competition cars.

Still Our Pick will be Verna due to advanced features adding up to style and elegance
Verna even displaces better power at 122 BHP in 1.6 Lit Engine and is also slightly more fuel efficient as against City basis ARAI Parameters.

There have been some discussions which has happened earlier on Sedan Cars and choices with Technical Specs , you can explore those in our Main Forum
