My WagonR fitted with LPG and Petrol purchased in 2007 Jan suddenly stops while driving on the road. I am a bit shocked that this is happening on a car produced by a reputed manufacturer like Maruti.
This can be dangerous to the occupants of the car if this happens on a crowded road..Very very disappointed that this is happening.

After the car is stopped for 30-40 minutes it again starts.
This has happened twice before however yesterday it did not start even after 30-40 minutes of waiting. It was very hot in the afternoon at about 3pm. After traveling for about 1km I stopped to purchase something. The car then restarted but after travelling about 50 meters it suddenly stopped while driving.

I waited for about 40 minutes and tried to restart but it did not work this time. There is no battery problem as its a very new battery and I could hear the car being cranked but yet did not start ...seemed as if the engine was not getting fuel.

Also there was no coolant issue the temp gauge was at the center.

I then called the mechanic to have a look at it. He tried a lot but was unable to get it started...Finally he started the car by hotwiring the cable running below the RHS of the back passenger seat. Pl see photograph. It shows the location although the wires are below and not seen in this picture.

Once we took it to the garage the mechanic did a lot of examination and checks and concluded that an electronic component in front of the passenger seat in the front had failed. It was not passing on the current ..We opened up the box and took a lot at the wiring etc inside. Everything looked fine...there were no carbon deposits and no burnt marks inside.

Please see photograph of this component.

I am unable to understand ...How could the component that was not working after several hours of attempts to start it failed ...How did it suddenly start working when the car was started by hot wiring the cables at the back..

The mechanic is a smart guy I think but I am not sure if this is the root cause of the issue...It seems that something is becoming hot after driving around and it fails after sometime...When it cools the car re-starts. Can someone please explain and throw more light on this issue.

Hello,

There are no pictures attached

However based on the issue mentioned - it seems like
> Engine Overheating: If coolant is okay and coolant levels are okay. Pl check for Engine Oil Levels, is dipstick showing Oil level correct
If yes - then the next possibility would be to check Fuel Lines

> Fuel Lines / Fuel Injector / Fuel Pressure : Get it inspected from alternate Maruti Suzuki Workshop. This could possibly be another and yet most common reason

> If its not Engine Overheat and not Fuel Line related issue then yes its mostly going to be an
1. electrical issue with the car or relay problem. Is there any modifiction done to the car or the car on stock specifications from Manufacturer
2. Expensive repairs which could be related to ECU and Oxygen Sensor

Will suggest to get car inspected in step by step for ruling out issues related to
> Engine
> Fuel Lines
> Electricals
> Last comes the ECU Part

Hope should help !!

Hello Admin,
I thank you for your time and valuable reply.
Sorry for not uploading the images..Here they are for your scrutiny..
Oil levels were fine and so were the coolant levels. Temp was fine..I had hardly driven 1 km but the car was in the sun from morning to 3pm when the incident happened.

Something is getting hot and then when it cools down the car starts again after an hour...
The mechanic suggests that there is some problem with the electronic part..He says its not sending current to the fuel pump and that is why no fuel was going to the engine. That is why the car started again after he hotwired the fuel pump wires below the mat of the back seat.
What is this part called? How much does it cost?
I think its there because of the DUO mode...LPG connection..Can we bypass it so that the car only runs on petrol.

Honestly I am really disappointed that such a dangerous issue is happening
because of this small electronic part...A reputed car manufacturer
like Maruti should not have the whole car dependent on this
part...A spare part dealer of Maruti could not even identify what it was...

All this is factory fitted...I think I made a big mistake by
purchasing the LPG/Petrol DUO mode...My sisters WagonR car
only running on petrol hardly gave her any problems.

Request your advise and views on the above...Best Wishes and Thanks again.

Hi Facing similar issue i.e. Wagnor stopped on road suddenly running on LPg mode...
and after that day ..never able to use it in LPG mode. (Vehicle immdately switches off on switching from petrol to LPG)
Wagnro is purchased just 4 year back.
Till date done all servicing in authorized Maruti-suzuki service centers in due date.

Visited Wonder car(Authorized service center in Pune) and also few private garage (which told that...as this is company fitted Kit they don't have expertise to repair it).... And service center is asking to do trial and error ..by replacing one by one companonts related to LPG kit ..like volve and etc....
So I have kept this repair on hold for now ...as they were not 100% sure about ..if those trail and error experiments would give solve the problem

Defintely this is BIG DISAPPOINTMENT from MARUTI-SUZUKI ...They have some defective part in LPG kit of wagnor ....not following proper quality control tests ...after complainting about it ...request is redirected to service center only who have abobe mentioned solution.

Let me know if you got any correct solution for this problem in Pune area....

@ Atul

The issue mentioned of car stopping in LPG, It seems to be either an issue with
> Valve issue - There are solenoid valve which control and regulate the flow of gas - most likely look like the issue
> Spark Plug - as there is increased heat due to LPG. So spark Plug may be at fault

You may have to refer to Maruti Authorized Workshop
In case - the workshop unable to rectify, suggest to raise complaint to Manufacturer on same.

Hope should help !!

Thanks Admin for the reply.

Had visited authorized workshop ...and got feedback that have to change regulator......

I am very disappointed that Maruti-Suzuki ...which is top brand in India for cars ....is manufacturing defective car parts and doesn't have proper quality checks. In just 4 years of time frame of purchase of car ...this type of Major problem is not expected ....that also with risk of life ...(While driving on highway on LPG mode ...when i changes gear from 3rd to 2nd ...car stopped suddenly ....) .....

Trying to contact Manufacture ...but didn't able to find proper contact info ....complaints logged are redirected to service centers ....and i feel they have done their work of diagnosing the problem ...and suggesting to replace the part .......But I am expecting answer from Maruti-Suzuki person
